As a follow up to my post about how a well documented solid work history can help you win your Social Security Disability Application.  The flip side of this issue is how failed work attempts impact your social security disability application.

Here’s what the experts in the Disability Digest Mini Course say.
A consistent effort to try to work exemplifies that your not a slacker and really want to work.   Your failure to work is a result of your condition being sever and keeping you from working 40 hours a week.

So today’s application tip is to document all failed short-term work attempts (Most consider define short term as less than 90 days).  Be detailed about what caused the failed attempt, were you being treated for the condition that is debilitating and what you did when you were not working.

Now the strategy is often viewed differently if you have already applied and are working part time and have to stop.  Because although Social Security (SSA) allows you to apply for disability if your monthly earnings are less than $940.00 these cases are difficult to get approved.

The reason is that if you can work a few hours at a job there SSA will argue that there must be some job that you can do full time.   So leading representatives often suggest that its best to stop work while applying.

Keep in mind you can resume work after you have been approved and keep your benefits … and The Disability Digest would be delighted to help you with your transition.
