What 52 Years of Disability Law Teaches About Getting Approved

There are several important factors Social Security Administration reviews to determine your disabled,

In plain English, this means that you are considered disabled if you cannot perform any work in the united states for 40 hours a week because of a serious medical problem.

Although your medical condition and Doctors records play an important role in getting approved one of the little know (often over looked) important ingredients is detailing your work history.  Especially if you have done the same job in the same industry for 15 + years  and are over 50 years old.  Even better if you’ve had the same job for this 15 year period.

This is because your work history is evidence that you are a hard working American that has a solid work history and likely would prefer to work and your condition is preventing you from doing this work any more.

Below is a success story sent this week is an example of this.  Nancy Gaunt worked as a nurse, applied when she was over 50 years old and used the Disability Digest Free Disability Mini Course and was approved in 6 weeks.

Hi Brian,

Just wanted to tell you that my disability was approved in about six weeks.

I have two career-ending conditions that came to light just this year after I was hospitalized with two bouts of pneumonia.  I have pulmonary hypertension and peripheral neuropathy.  As a nurse I cannot work with either condition especially since the job requires standing (can’t do with peripheral neuropathy) and being around anything that could result in trauma or infectious agents affecting the central line IV that is going directly into my heart as treatment for the pulmonary hypertension.

Aside from having a Social Security agent who was really helpful in framing the application, I sent my medical summary from the Mayo Clinic.  It was very detailed and included my conditions and limitations.  My story may not be typical but I learned from your course and greatly benefited from the information.  Thanks for everything.

If you’re exhausted from explaining your condition over and over again, you’re not alone. Many Social Security disability applicants — and even people already receiving SSDI or SSI — feel stuck in this frustrating loop: You say you’re struggling. Your doctor writes “stable” or “doing fine.” Social Security reads the record and assumes you can function. And you’re left wondering ...
