On April 21, 2009, the Social Security Administration, through its ‘Leadership For The Employment of Americans With Disabilities’ unveiled plans to hire a good number of persons with disabilities.
As many of you may have learned, the Social Security Administration received funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Those funds, along with the budget were received through fiscal year 2009 appropriations, and creates an unprecedented opportunity for disabled people to join the workforce.
And they are using a significant portion of the funds received to hire some 6000 new employees between March and September of this year. Now they have been actively recruiting across the nation. And since March, they have been extremely successful in hiring efforts thus far, and have made significant strides toward that ultimate goal.
People with disabilities, including Veterans and ticket holders are represented among those that have been hired already. Although making considerable progress in the hiring process, opportunity still exists and they are looking to continue to recruit for people with disabilities as part of the overall hiring strategy.
6000 jobs is quite a few, and I would encourage those who have seriously analyzed their ability to work, and are willing to give it a serious effort to visit the following website.

Look for the ‘schedule A’ portion on the page, and proceed from there. The SSA has developed this ‘schedule A’ in order to speed up the process, and attain their goal of 6000 jobs filled by September of this year.
If only they could speed up the application process. Currently, there are 1.2 million folks in the ‘backlog’ category. No doubt many of you found yourselves in the same position, or perhaps are trapped there now.
Thank goodness for the Disability Digest, as it continues to develop methods of assisting disabled people in many ways. Look for good things to happen in 2009. Through hard work , many things can be achieved.
