Disabled Bailout?

Greetings Forum members,

Although this news has been out for a while, it is worth repeating as it directly affects the pocketbooks of our disabled population, those who receive Social Security and SSI payments.

Vice President Biden and Social Security Commissioner Michael J Astrue, have announced that the federal government will send out $250 to these individuals beginning in early May and continuing throughout the month. Vice President Biden said, “These are checks that will make a big difference in the lives of older Americans and people with disabilities—many of whom have been hit especially hard by the economic crisis that has swept across the country.”

Ain’t that the truth,  Mr. Vice President.

Apparently, the government is on track to send approximately 13 billion dollars to more than 50 million Americans.  (Too bad we are not a bank) Commissioner Astrue stressed, “We have been working diligently to issue the $250 one-time recovery payments as soon as possible…..the legislation requires extensive coordination with other federal agencies and I’m pleased we are on track to issue these payments earlier than the statute requires.”

The legislation provides for a one-time payment of $250 to adult Social Security beneficiaries, and SSI recipients.  To receive the payment the individual must be eligible for Social Security or SSI during the months of November 2008, or January 2009.   However, if you are receiving Medicare in a care facility, you are not eligible for the payment.  For more detailed information, go to:

Make sure and save out a few dollars to buy something special for someone you love.  It will brighten your day.
