"How To Dig Out Debt And 11 Ways To Stretch Your Disability Check!"

Tips to dig out of dept!

1. Credit counseling:
An agency (typically non-profit) will help you set up a 3-5 year debt repayment plan.

The agency will negotiate with creditors to get a lower interest rate and get fees waived on your outstanding debt.

Once a plan is in place you send one check to the agency each month and they distribute to the creditors.

Choosing the right service:
Select a credit counseling service that has been in business for at least 10 years. On the site
www.usdoj.gov select A-Z Index at the bottom of the page, then credit counseling. Expect to pay an initial amount of $30- $50 a month.

Other options to consolidate debt: use money in your retirement account, get a personal loan from family or friends, or use home equity. There are pros and cons to each approach.  Make sure you have good financial advice regarding each before you use one of them.

2. Debt settlement firm:
The firm will attempt to convince your creditors to accept less than you owe. This could be as much as 50 - 60% less.  This is different than option 1 because you are not paying back all the money.  You will likely be asked to stop making all payments to creditors so the firm can negotiate the best deal.
  • Reduce your debt by 40 - 65%
  • Get out of debt in 12 - 36 months*
  • This will stop harassing creditor calls
  • Settle your debt for LESS than you owe
  • Arrange ONE simple monthly payment
  • Consolidation is a Smart and Easy Alternative to Bankruptcy
Choosing the right company:
The company fee is based mainly on the amount they save you not what you owe. Example: $100 - $200 set up fee and 15% - 25% of what you save.

The plan should get you out of debt in 36 months.  Look for a company that has been in business for at least 10 years.
